Chayah means to live, revive and be whole. The name embodies who we are as an organization.
Our mission is to provide services to individuals and families that have suffered acute, complex trauma, or other mental health disorders. Chayah is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2020.
Our volunteer staff come with over 10 years’ experience in working with trauma victims, including veterans, human trafficking victims, at-risk youth, foster families with specialized level of care children, and other victims of crime.
Chayah Ministries uses the strength and virtue of the horse to help heal the human soul. Equine assisted psychotherapy is evidence-based and more effective than traditional talk therapy and medication for healing PTSD. Studies have shown that this type of therapy reduces nightmares, anxiety, depression, anger, irritability, and other debilitating effects of this invisible, yet very real disability.
Some of our horses have been donated because they were retired from what they had been doing to serve their owners or came with injuries or other health issues. Chayah provides care to these horses and when they are recovered and able, we partner with them to provide equine assisted psychotherapy and therapeutic riding. This partnership includes a human therapy team, consisting of a licensed mental health professional and a certified equine specialist.
What is Wrap Around Care?
Using a team of key individuals involved in the health and well being of a foster family and the family members themselves, Chayah Ministries facilitates a program designed to enhance strengths and solve family issues by creating a strength-based intervention plan with a foster family or a child in a foster home.
We provide through Horse Power Equine Therapy, a specialized equine therapy program that is for Veterans and their families. Our program helps them build trust, confidence and helps to process through traumatic experiences and other obstacles in their life. Our therapy program can help individuals recover from Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) while promoting physical, emotional, social, and cognitive healing. Activities include therapeutic horseback riding, EAL and EAP
